Who We Are

What We Offer

lathe_and_tool.jpg

Do I have to join to attend a meeting?

No. In fact, we encourage guests and prospective members to attend a club meeting so they can get to know us and learn about our activities.

I do not have woodturning experience and do not own a lathe. Can I still join?

We welcome novice turners as well as experienced or professional turners. Woodturning definitely requires an up-front investment in tools/equipment, and most members acquire their tools/equipment over time. By joining the club, you’ll have the opportunity to attend Sawdust Sessions and access the Mentor Program, which is a great way to start out and receive hands-on experience and instruction.

My job is demanding and commuting to meetings may be a challenge. Can I join even though I cannot attend many meetings?

Absolutely, and we have current members that fit your profile. In addition to monthly meetings, events like Sawdust Sessions, Hands-On workshops, and Wood Rat excursions provide additional opportunities to socialize and engage with the club. We're developing our website, calendar, and social media presence to better serve the membership as well. You can follow us on Instagram or join the club to access our private Facebook group.

How do I pay my dues to become a member?

Membership dues support our club activities. Our Treasurer is always available to accept your application and membership dues (cash or check) at meetings. You can also join our club online here: New Member Signup. Dues are paid online via PayPal (which also has an option for payment via Debit/Credit card without requiring an account). You’ll be emailed with information to help get you oriented with the club.

Joining the club places you on our member email distribution list. We regularly publish information about our events and other announcements as well as newsletters. You’ll also be invited to join our Facebook group and follow us on Instagram. Feel free to contact us with any questions.

Do I have to complete an application?

Yes, members joining our club complete an application either in person or online. Applicants are asked to provide their name and contact information as well as their woodturning interests and experience level.

When I join, will I become a member of the American Association of

Woodturners?

No, when you join the Seattle Woodturners, all membership dues directly support our local chapter. Many of our club members additionally support our parent organization, the American Association of Woodturners (AAW). In fact, our bylaws require that the club's leadership also be members of the AAW.

*First-time AAW applicants who are also new members of a local AAW chapter, such as the Seattle Woodturners, qualify for a free 90-day trial AAW membership
