Donate a Tree
Thank you for considering donating wood or a tree to the Seattle Woodturners. We are a chapter of the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) and registered with the IRS as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our members proudly support sustainable creative practices by obtaining and sourcing wood from salvaged, locally-sourced trees that have been previously felled due to wind storms, disease, damage, or old age.
What we do
- We come to your location and use chainsaws to cut large pieces of wood into wood blanks, which are used by our members
- We remove the larger pieces of wood previously felled by a tree cutting service or storms/wind/old age
- We prefer hardwood species (e.g. Madrone, Maple, Oak) and fruitwood (e.g. Pear)
- We do not charge for our service
- We carry liability insurance for protection against accidents
- We provide documentation to support your tree/wood donation(s) to our non-profit
- We clean-up and remove wood shavings, resulting from on-site chainsaw work
What we don’t do
- We do not fell trees, except under very rare circumstances
- We do not remove small branches, leaves, twigs, and/or loose debris
- We do not provide a wood chipping service for wood that is not removed
- We do not pay for wood
- We do not provide bonding or sign waivers
- We do not place a monetary value on wood that is donated
